Will we ever run out of original tunes?

It's anybody's guess, but from a purely mathematical perspective the answer is probably no. Let's take a very restricted guess and say that, for any note, there are just five that could follow it and sound 'tuneful'. That means that after just 21 notes, there would be around 95 million theoretical possibilities. The possibilities, it would seem, are almost endless.
