Could we still use computers even without the mouse?

Before the advent of the mouse in 1968, the light pen was all the rage among technology buffs. Today, touchscreen technology is found on phones, ipods and in kiosks, such as rail and airline ticket machines. Graphics studios are keen on electronic pads, where operators trace out designs using a stylus. Many laptops have touchpads, while trackball devices are another alternative to the mouse.
