The police could well be watching you from above in the not too distant future. A group of government agencies, including Kent police, are working with arms manufacturer BAE Systems to develop a surveillance drone that could operate over British skies. The aim is to get the plane, or airship, airborne in time for the 2012 Olympics. The craft would be fitted with powerful cameras and sensors and could be used to spot everything from thefts from cash machines to illegal driving. Drones developed by BAE take off and land on their own and stay airborne for up to 15 hours at altitudes too high to be visible from the ground.
